Day 3 in Kathmandu

Today was a very busy day! First, we joined the morning prayer, so we had to wake up very early at 5am. This was a really nice experience! After another delicious breakfast we split up the group. Mélodie, Jelke, Charlot and Sofie went to the Redcross to receive some more information about our water distribution project. We were very fortunate as they were able to help us a lot. Maybe even, they can send a local engineer to join and help us. While Mélodie, Charlot and Jelke had a further meeting in the Redcross with Dries Goeminne and visited the library, Sofie went with Trinlay to Ansu and Chuva, next to Tamel. There she had an appointment with an organization which is specialized in constructions. This meeting also yielded a lot of interest information about our water distribution system.

The other five group members (Brecht, Mark, Lien, Pierre and Kristof) had another meeting with Pema Dorjee and Kharma. Primary target was to discuss the organization of the book account. For us it is very important to know in detail what the money is used form, so that we can be very transparent towards all the donors. Secondly, we prepared the upcoming meetings for the villagers in Ratankot. Our aim is to talk with the committee and the teachers separately. There will also be a big ceremony with all the villagers in which our visit and the underlying intentions are announced. The biggest problem we face will be time, as we want to involve Pema Dorjee during these three meetings and he has to be back in Kathmandu the 9th for his flight to Finland. So the 3 meetings have to be organized on one day, July 7th.

After the meeting with Pema and Kharma, Brecht, Mark, Lien, Pierre and Kristof went to Budhanath Stupa. Introduced by Dries, Lien called Unicef Nepal to get more information about education in Nepal. We want to improve the level of the teachers and maybe they can help us with that. Tomorrow we have an appointment at 4.30pm with them. After that we had a dinner on the roof of a restaurant with a magnificent view over the Stupa. Next, again we split up the group. Brecht and Kristof went to Tamel to join the meeting with Sofie, Ansu and Chuva, while Mark, Pierre and Lien visited a Hindu temple, which was really amazing!

At 7pm finally everyone was back in the monastery. The day was very tiring, but also very productive! We took a quick shower and had a delicious dinner. At 8pm Pema Dorjee gave us a teaching about controlling our stress and bad thoughts, which was very interesting! Because we were so tired, we decided to go to sleep very early. Tomorrow again we will have a busy day!

Regards,

PS the weather is not as good as last year, because we have more rain. But still, the temperature is good, so we can walk around the whole time in t-shirt!
